A quick glance at our analytics showed that a visitor recently arrived to our site by searching the phrase “model thai food,” presumably in Google. Nat[chos]urally, out of curiosity, I put said phrase into Google, only to find that we are the #1 result (more specifically, Trish’s Thai Food Bounce post from March).

I don’t know what “model Thai food” might be, exactly, but I have some pretty good ideas—maybe you have some ideas, as well? Regardless, we are happy to be the official band of model Thai food, and we’re looking forward to our next culinary recognition in the category of Indian.

Take that, Thai food poseurs!

In other news: Worst nan ever leads to hot hot recordings—After completing a rough mix of our recording from last Thursday, I’m truly excited to throw more tunes in the tandoor to see what else cooks.

Practice has been (to use a phrase I hate*) a long time coming. With Jon away on business one week and me attending some seminar the next, our rehearsal schedule has been a little erratic. Needless to say, we were thrilled when we were finally able to get together last night. And with an audience! Carly, Tim, and their cute dog Layla popped in to join us in wine and song. It was great company and I’m now pushing for Jon to get a dog (though his allergies are shoving him in the other direction).

We did a quick run through of the oldies for our audience. Then our dinner came — our crappy Indian food. Biggest let down ever! Dan, Alex, and I were so excited for our meal and it was crazy oily, spicy but without flavor, and the worst nan we’ve ever had (really??!? yea… we were a little shocked too). Meanwhile, Jon, the most unadventurous eater you’ll ever meet, devoured his grilled chicken pizza with no sympathy for our unsatisfied culinary craving.

On to multi-tracking Alex’s most recent song and then sneezing on each other and sipping from the same bottle of wine — swine flu anyone?

- – -

*There’s a story there — another time…

Yesterday’s Model had a special practice on Sunday. It was an all day affair!!!

First:
Brunch at Taqueria. Yumma!

The food on our table: fish tacos + pork tacos + chorizo tacos + flautas with rice and beans (which Alex ate with his chorizo tacos. quel appetite!) + cervezas

The talk at our table: “Welcome back, Danny!” “How was Paris?” “Good?” “Cool!” “Nice jacket!” “Look, Trivial Pursuit cards! Do you know the fish up north that does that thing that no one really knows about?” “I like art.” “I want a dog.”

Then:
We worked on Alex’s new song.

Followed by:
Alex, Dan and I went for a beer run and a quick stop for ice cream at Torico’s. Dan, sporting his recent Parisian purchase – a kick ass leather jacket – scared parents and children alike as he Fonzied his way to the front of the ice cream line, with our own recent class act purchase in his hand, a case of beer. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Jon did some wacky tech stuff (that is beyond my comprehension) in order for us to record our rehearsal for future reference/critique.

Subsequently:
We finished our ice cream, drank more beer, and recorded our progress on Alex’s song.

Fifth:
It was a beautiful day and still light out, so we walked to the park and watched a squirrel pull things out of a trash can, struggle with eating paper, leave his garbage on the tree top, and then scurry away to have other people clean up his mess for him! Typical!

Finally:
We did a quick run through of our other songs and called it a day.

Alex introduced me and Jon to the 80’s TV theme song sound-alike that is the Mattress Giant jingle — complete with awkward overly sensual oooh-ing at the end.

He also introduced us to his bouncy new tune. We spent the entire practice playing this great number. Jon is still working out the kinks in his guitar solo but he’s almost there. After much flubbing, I was finally able to figure out the keyboard changes. Let’s see if I still got it next time we meet….

No cooking. We missed Danny too much to cook. So we ordered Thai food instead. And Alex counted off in French. I mean, he’s always counting off in French, but I think I saw a tear fall from his left eye when he said “trois.” Hope Danny’s enjoying his baguettes and coq au vin.

We found our animal spirits!

Turns out Alex is a wolverine, Dan is a wolf, Jonny is an owl, and Trish is a spider. meow.

In keeping with our animal spirits, Alex battled with a sabertooth, Dan straddled the line in discord and rhyme and got hungry, Jonny took three licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop, and Trish spun catchy phrases on her web to save a pig’s life. All in all a productive evening.

Time was short and rehearsal has been long overdue, so no cooking tonight. Chinese take out, quick run through of our songs, and a fond adieu to Dan who is on his way to a Parisian vacation. Bon voyage, our canine friend!
